AfD leads recent polling by wide margins in the two eastern states voting this month, with support near 40% in Saxony-Anhalt on September 6 and 35-38% in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern on September 20. In both cases the party is positioned to secure the largest share of Landtag seats, and possibly an absolute majority in Saxony-Anhalt if smaller parties fall below the 5% threshold. Berlin’s concurrent vote on September 20 shows AfD gains nationally but remains more competitive given the capital’s distinct electorate. Other parties continue to rule out coalitions with AfD, yet the party’s consistent first-place standing in the eastern contests underpins the market’s strong consensus on exactly two outright seat pluralities.
