Corruption investigations targeting Spain’s governing PSOE party, including a May 2026 raid on party headquarters and charges against figures close to Pedro Sánchez such as his wife and brother, have fueled opposition demands for his resignation. In June 2026, the lower house passed a non-binding resolution urging him to step down, backed by the conservative PP and right-wing parties. Sánchez’s minority coalition government has so far withstood these pressures, with no successful no-confidence motion and smaller parties reluctant to trigger early elections. Regional election setbacks for PSOE and ongoing probes continue to weigh on stability, though the administration rules out snap votes before the scheduled end of term in 2027. Traders assess limited near-term exit risk absent a parliamentary breakthrough or further legal escalation.
