This market will resolve according to the individual who leads the next White House press briefing following the creation of this market. Resolution is based on who actually delivers the briefing from the podium, not on who is listed or announced in advance. If the individual scheduled or announced to give a briefing does not ultimately lead it, this market will resolve to the individual who does. An individual who appears at a qualifying briefing only as a guest, or who speaks only after being introduced by the individual leading the briefing, will not qualify. For the purposes of this market, a White House press briefing is an event listed on the public White House schedule as a press briefing. Any such briefing will qualify, even if the individual leading it has not been formally announced as the Press Secretary or as an acting or interim Press Secretary. "New Media" briefings and special briefings including additional guests will qualify, so long as the individual leads the briefing. Impromptu press gaggles, and remarks that are not listed on the public schedule as a press briefing, will not qualify. If two or more individuals jointly lead the next qualifying briefing, this market will resolve to the individual who speaks first. If no qualifying White House press briefing occurs by September 30, 2026, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to "Other". This market will resolve based on footage of the briefing, as indicated by a consensus of credible reporting. The vacancy in the White House press secretary position after Karoline Leavitt's departure on August 27 has left briefing duties fluid, with no permanent successor named and communications led by figures such as Steven Cheung. This setup drives the market's tight distribution, as trader consensus assigns comparable implied probabilities across a broad field of administration officials and aides who have conducted or could lead sessions in the James S. Brady Briefing Room. Recent examples include Vice President JD Vance handling questions on September 3, while cabinet members like Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent have briefed in prior months. Separation among contenders could emerge from an official appointment announcement, a published schedule identifying the next briefer, or procedural shifts in how the White House manages media access amid ongoing policy and legislative priorities.
