The closely contested Maskinongé race reflects the August 27 launch of the October 5 Quebec general election campaign, pitting incumbent CAQ MNA Simon Allaire—who reversed an earlier retirement decision—against PQ candidate Isabelle Blais, a high-profile actress who secured her nomination with 63% support in April. Recent projections from sources like Qc125 show the CAQ holding a modest lead on 2022 results of 53.5%, yet trader pricing around 50-51% for the top two underscores vote-splitting risks from PLQ’s Nancy Mignault, QS’s Simon Piotte, PCQ’s Marc-André Cloutier, and an independent. Key separation factors include upcoming local debates, regional Mauricie economic concerns, provincial party momentum under new CAQ Premier Christine Fréchette, and any shifts in early voting turnout between September 27-28.
