Recent Middle East conflict-driven energy price spikes have lifted UK CPI to 2.9% in July 2026 from 2.6% in June, prompting the Bank of England’s July Monetary Policy Report to project a near-term peak near 3.2% in 2026 Q4 before easing toward target. Trader consensus, reflected in the 27.1% implied probability for the 3.5–3.9% annual outcome, prices in upside risks from direct utility costs and supply-chain pass-through, alongside potential second-round wage and price effects amid a still-elevated services component. Lower-probability buckets below 3% or above 4.5% hinge on the shock’s duration, labor-market slack, and any additional global pressures from tariffs or AI-related input costs. Key near-term catalysts include the September CPI release and the next MPC decision, which will clarify the inflation trajectory through year-end.
