Recent August 2026 CPI data at 3.4% year-over-year, driven by a 0.4% monthly headline gain from energy prices including a 3.9% gasoline surge, anchors trader expectations for the September reading. Market-implied odds cluster tightly around 3.5% and 3.6%, reflecting forecasts near 3.55% alongside Cleveland Fed nowcasts at 3.43% amid ongoing oil supply pressures from Middle East tensions and rising consumer inflation expectations to 4.6%. Core measures remain sticky near 2.4%, with AI-related demand and shelter costs providing additional upward momentum, while the October 14 release will resolve the outcome based on these near-term inputs.
