Recent polling shows the SPD closing a narrow gap with the AfD ahead of the September 20 Landtag election, with the latest Insa survey placing the SPD at 35% and the AfD at 37%. This momentum, driven by Minister President Manuela Schwesig’s personal popularity and appeals to centrist and Green voters, supports trader expectations of roughly 26-29 seats for the SPD under proportional representation with the 5% threshold. Other parties remain fragmented, with the Left near 10%, the CDU at 7%, and the Greens hovering at 5%, limiting major shifts in seat distribution. The market’s heavy weighting toward the 26-29 range reflects these final-week trends and the structural barriers to larger SPD gains or sharp declines.
