Recent polls conducted in July and August 2026 show the AfD maintaining a steady lead at approximately 35-36 percent, while the SPD trails in second at 28-29 percent, ahead of the Left at 11-12 percent and the CDU at 9-10 percent. This consistent ordering underpins trader expectations that the SPD will finish second in the September 20 Landtag election. Minister President Manuela Schwesig’s personal popularity and the SPD’s campaign focus have helped narrow the gap slightly in recent surveys, though the AfD remains positioned to become the strongest force. Smaller parties such as the Greens, BSW, and FDP hover near or below the five-percent threshold, limiting their prospects for second place. The market reflects this polling stability and the limited likelihood of late shifts altering the second-place outcome.
