Alibaba’s Qwen series drives the 67% market-implied odds for best Chinese AI company by end of September, fueled by the early August launch of Qwen3.8-Max, its largest model yet at 2.4 trillion parameters, which quickly climbed public leaderboards and prompted share gains. The family’s open-weight releases have achieved over three billion global downloads in six months, outpacing Meta and Google models among developers and underscoring broad ecosystem adoption. Recent competitor moves, including Moonshot’s full open-sourcing of the 2.8-trillion-parameter Kimi K3 and DeepSeek’s low-cost V4-Flash plus agent runtime framework, have kept those names at 14% and 3% respectively, yet they trail in verified usage scale and multimodal benchmarks. Traders appear to weigh Alibaba’s combination of frontier performance claims, developer traction, and consistent iteration ahead of the September resolution window.
