Current National Hurricane Center and NOAA monitoring shows no active tropical cyclones in the eastern or central Pacific as of August 9, 2026, but a tropical wave east-southeast of Hawaii is generating disorganized showers and thunderstorms under conditions favorable for gradual organization. Official outlooks indicate an above-normal 2026 season overall, with model guidance pointing to possible tropical depression formation early the following week—well before the August 14 resolution date. This near-term disturbance, combined with climatological peak-season patterns and historical August development rates in the basins, underpins the market's elevated implied probability for formation. Updated NHC tropical weather outlooks through midweek will provide key data points for traders assessing intensification potential and steering influences.
