This market will resolve according to the total number of valid votes cast in the first round of the 2026 midterm election for Senator from Mississippi. If the reported value falls exactly between two brackets, then this market will resolve to the higher range bracket. If the results of the specified election are not definitively known by March 31, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to the lowest range bracket. All votes certified for candidates or non-candidate options in the specified election are included. Invalidated or blank votes are not included. In ranked-choice or preferential systems, the first-round vote total will be used. The primary resolution source for this market will be the official results of the first round of the 2026 midterm election for Senator from Mississippi, as published by the state electoral authority responsible for certifying the results of the election; however, an overwhelming consensus of credible reporting may also be used. The competitiveness of the November 3 general election between incumbent Republican Cindy Hyde-Smith and Democratic challenger Scott Colom, alongside Democratic mobilization efforts targeting Black voters, is the primary driver behind trader expectations for turnout in the 700,000–800,000 range. Mississippi’s historically low participation rates in midterms, with eligible voter turnout around 32.5% in 2022 and roughly 821,000 ballots cast in the 2023 gubernatorial contest, set a baseline below presidential-year levels. Recent polling showing the race within single digits has heightened focus on turnout gaps, though structural factors such as the absence of early voting and the state’s overall voter engagement patterns continue to constrain upside. The market’s leading bin aligns with these precedents while reflecting modest optimism for elevated participation if national conditions sustain Democratic enthusiasm.
