In Hualien County's magistrate race for the November 28, 2026 local elections, a crowded field of KMT-affiliated and independent candidates has produced closely matched trader probabilities. The official KMT nominee, Ji'an Township head Yu Shu-chen, faces challenges from independents including former Hualien City mayor Wei Chia-hsien, County Council Speaker Chang Chun, Lo Pei-chin, and Yeh Yao-hui. Internal party divisions over ending long-standing local influence have fragmented support among pan-blue voters, while the absence of recent public polling leaves assessments reliant on early announcements and nomination dynamics. Upcoming candidate registration, potential coalition talks, and voter turnout patterns in this eastern Taiwan county could shift the balance ahead of election day.
