The open race for Göttingen's Oberbürgermeister, with incumbent Petra Broistedt stepping aside, has produced a four-candidate field ahead of the September 13 first-round vote and possible September 27 runoff. Trader consensus places Florian Dinger (SPD) narrowly ahead at 38.5 percent implied probability, followed by Onyeka Oshionwu (Greens, backed by Volt) at 29.5 percent, Ehsan Kangarani (CDU, supported by the FDP) at 13.5 percent, and Thomas Goes (Die Linke) at 0.6 percent, with numerous low-probability options reflecting vote fragmentation in this university city. Recent candidate forums and interviews have focused on city finances, housing costs, climate measures, and public participation without producing decisive shifts. The tight positioning stems from the absence of an incumbent advantage and competing appeals to progressive, centrist, and left-leaning voters; higher turnout among younger residents or stronger cross-party endorsements could widen gaps before election day.
