The Colorado initiative prohibiting healthcare providers from performing surgeries to alter biological sex characteristics for minors under 18, while barring state, federal, Medicaid, or insurance funding for such procedures, qualified for the November 3, 2026 ballot after Protect Kids Colorado gathered the required signatures. It joins related measures on youth sports eligibility amid broader national patterns, with 27 states enacting comparable restrictions. Federal actions under the current administration have targeted Medicaid reimbursement for these services, and investigations have affected providers like Children’s Hospital Colorado. Opposition funding and advocacy from groups emphasizing access to care create counter-pressure in a state with prior statutory protections for gender-affirming services. These factors shape the 63% implied probability for passage.
