Argentina’s official USD/ARS rate, currently near 1,490, trades within a managed crawling band expanded monthly in line with lagged inflation under the January 2026 framework. Persistent though sharply lower inflation—monthly readings near 1.9% by mid-2026 and full-year forecasts of 30-32%—continues to pressure the peso, supporting trader pricing of further gradual depreciation through year-end. Reserve accumulation needs, external debt service, and the central bank’s dollar-purchase mandate within the band reinforce expectations that the rate will exceed 1,600 by December 2026, the dominant market-implied outcome. Recent reserve dips tied to IMF payments and the shift from a fixed 1% monthly crawl to inflation-adjusted bands have anchored this path, with limited scope for rapid stabilization absent stronger capital inflows.
