Redistricting has reshaped California's 22nd congressional district into a more Democratic-leaning seat ahead of the November 2026 general election, contributing to trader consensus favoring the Democratic nominee. Incumbent Republican David Valadao advanced from the June 2026 top-two primary alongside Democrat Randy Villegas, who edged out moderate state lawmaker Jasmeet Bains. Recent polling shows Villegas holding narrow leads in head-to-head matchups, while the district's voter registration and past presidential results reflect a tighter partisan balance than in prior cycles. High fundraising totals and outside spending underscore the race's competitiveness, though structural shifts from new maps and primary dynamics have positioned the Democratic candidate as the clear frontrunner in market pricing.
