NOAA's latest August 2026 update forecasts a below-normal Atlantic season with 2-6 hurricanes likely, citing a strengthening El Niño that boosts vertical wind shear across the main development region, inhibiting tropical cyclone organization and intensification. Only two named storms (Arthur, Bertha) have formed through early August, with zero hurricanes observed so far against a long-term average of seven. Forecasters including Colorado State University project around four hurricanes total, while noting that peak activity in September remains sensitive to evolving ENSO conditions and steering patterns. These factors support market-implied odds favoring 1-3 or 4-6 hurricanes, reflecting trader assessment of suppressed genesis amid confirmed observational data.

If there is no storm categorized as a hurricane in the Atlantic during the specified timeframe this market will resolve to "0".
A hurricane is a tropical cyclone with maximum sustained winds of 74 mph or greater (Category 1 or higher on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale), as described at https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/aboutsshws.php.
This market may resolve based on the initial NHC advisory reporting a qualifying hurricane regardless of any later advisory, retraction, best-track revision, or reanalysis that revises that storm's intensity downward. The official count will be determined by the NHC (nhc.noaa.gov) advisories.
