With early 2027 Oscars contenders for Best Documentary Feature closely bunched, trader sentiment reflects festival momentum and distribution strength rather than a clear frontrunner. Once Upon a Time in Harlem leads after its Sundance premiere, Cannes Directors’ Fortnight slot, and Neon pickup, buoyed by strong reviews for its restored 1972 Harlem Renaissance footage. American Doctor follows on recent audience awards and its August theatrical rollout tracking U.S. physicians in Gaza. Nuisance Bear benefits from A24 backing and early critical buzz, while Alex Gibney’s Musk draws attention from its high-profile subject and ambitious Best Picture campaign ahead of an October release. Other titles remain longer shots pending wider exposure and guild precursors.
