Republican Bill Huizenga, the eight-term incumbent, holds the edge in Michigan’s 4th congressional district due to its consistent Republican lean, with Donald Trump carrying it by six points in 2024 and Huizenga winning by roughly 12 points that year. Trader consensus at 63.5% for Republicans versus 35% for Democrats aligns with nonpartisan ratings classifying the seat as Lean or Likely Republican. State Sen. Sean McCann, the leading Democratic candidate and endorsed by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, has narrowed the gap in some polling and outraised the incumbent in early quarters, yet a March Republican-sponsored survey showed Huizenga ahead by six points. With primaries set for August 4, 2026, the race remains competitive amid national midterm dynamics, though the district’s voting history continues to anchor GOP positioning.
