Nominations for the 2026 CMA Musician of the Year, announced September 10, established a tight five-way race among established session players whose credits span recent chart-topping country albums and singles. Paul Franklin’s 26% market-implied odds reflect his 2025 win and decades of steel-guitar work, while Rob McNelley sits close behind on similar guitar-session volume. Jenee Fleenor’s 25.5% incorporates her three prior victories as the category’s leading fiddler. Charlie Worsham (14.5%) and Tom Bukovac (13.5%) trail, buoyed by Worsham’s 2024 win and both guitarists’ consistent high-profile studio contributions. With the November 18 ceremony still two months away and voting limited to CMA’s musician and producer members, recent chart activity and guild-style recognition will likely determine whether any contender pulls ahead.
