The open TX-35 seat, vacated after redistricting and the incumbent's move to another district, features Democratic nominee Johnny Garcia, a Bexar County deputy sheriff backed by the DCCC and Blue Dog Coalition, against Republican Carlos De La Cruz, an Air Force veteran and brother of sitting Rep. Monica De La Cruz who secured the nomination with Trump endorsement. The 2025 GOP-led map shifted the San Antonio-area, Hispanic-majority district to an R+4 partisan voting index, creating a targeted Republican opportunity in what was previously a stronger Democratic seat. With the November 2026 general election roughly three months away and no dominant recent polling available, trader consensus assigns Democrats a modest edge, reflecting Garcia's law-and-order positioning, underlying district demographics, and observed shifts among Hispanic voters that have narrowed the structural Republican advantage from redistricting.
