Recent polling averages position the SPD firmly in second place behind the AfD ahead of the September 20, 2026, Landtag election, with the Social Democrats holding 28-29% support compared to the AfD’s 35-36%. Incumbent Minister-President Manuela Schwesig’s personal popularity and modest recent gains by the SPD have reinforced this positioning, while the CDU remains near 9-10%, Die Linke around 11-12%, and smaller parties such as the Greens, BSW, and FDP hover near or below the 5% threshold. These stable trends across multiple surveys explain trader consensus favoring the SPD for second place, with limited movement in the final weeks before voting.
