Recent National Weather Service forecasts and model guidance point to an overnight low of 68–71°F in Chicago on September 5, 2026, driven by northeast winds off Lake Michigan that limit radiative cooling while maintaining high humidity and preventing sharp drops. Persistent warmth from early September, with prior highs near 90°F, has kept baseline temperatures elevated, but strengthening onshore flow and partial clearing after patchy fog introduce variability in the exact minimum. Traders see tight clustering around 68–75°F ranges because small differences in wind speed, cloud cover timing, or station-specific readings (O’Hare versus downtown) can shift the daily low by 2–3°F. Historical September averages near 62°F underscore the current anomaly, with resolution hinging on official observations through midnight.
