Recent July CPI data showing a 0.5% annual rise—well below expectations and the prior month’s 1.0%—has kept trader focus on subdued domestic demand, declining food prices, and softer non-food inflation as the primary anchors for August outcomes. With the two leading brackets (0.5-0.6% and 0.7-0.8%) nearly even, markets reflect uncertainty over whether weak consumption and producer-price moderation will persist or give way to modest base-effect rebounds and seasonal pressures. Upcoming retail sales, industrial output, and any policy signals on stimulus or energy costs could widen the gap by clarifying demand momentum ahead of the early-September release.
