Recent Japan Meteorological Agency forecasts and global model consensus indicate cloud cover and scattered showers likely moderating Tokyo’s August 12 maximum into the mid- to upper-20s Celsius, below the 31.6 °C daily normal. This outlook underpins the tight market clustering around 26–28 °C outcomes. Key differentiating factors include the strength and timing of any frontal passage, which controls solar insolation and afternoon convective cooling; the persistence of the subtropical high versus intruding moisture; and the urban heat-island effect tempered by sea-breeze advection along Tokyo Bay. Ensemble spread remains modest but non-negligible, with small shifts in precipitation timing or thickness of cloud decks able to swing the peak by 1–2 °C. Updated JMA guidance and high-resolution model runs over the next 48 hours will provide the clearest signals for resolution.
