Frank Klingebiel holds a commanding lead in the Salzgitter mayoral race as the long-serving CDU incumbent seeking a fourth term in the September 13 direct election. His position stems from two decades in office, prior first-round victories exceeding 50 percent, and an established local profile that has not faced significant erosion ahead of the vote. The six-candidate field, confirmed in late July and including challengers from the SPD, AfD, Greens, Die PARTEI, and a new local voters’ group, has produced no notable momentum shifts. Traders price an outright first-round win as the consensus outcome, though a runoff on September 27 remains possible if no candidate secures an absolute majority of valid votes. Late developments such as unusually low turnout or coordinated opposition could still alter the result.
