Recent polling trends across multiple surveys have placed the Greens ahead of the SPD by several points in voting intention for the September 20, 2026, Berlin state election, reflecting sustained weakness for the Social Democrats in their traditional stronghold. The SPD's share has fallen to around 12-15 percent amid broader dissatisfaction with the incumbent CDU-SPD coalition's record on housing, budget shortfalls, and governance, while the Greens hold steadier support near 16-19 percent. Candidate positioning, with the SPD's Steffen Krach facing limited traction and the Greens fielding a joint ticket, has reinforced this gap. Trader consensus at 84 percent for the Greens exceeding the SPD aligns with these consistent survey margins and limited signs of late recovery for the Social Democrats ahead of election day.
