Recent polling shows Democrats holding a modest generic ballot edge and a clear engagement advantage heading into the 2026 midterms, with higher shares of their coalition viewing congressional control as important and actively following the race. This dynamic, set against a Republican-controlled White House facing low approval ratings and economic concerns as the dominant voter issue, supports trader focus on turnout levels near or above recent midterm totals. Midterm elections historically draw lower participation than presidential years, yet sustained base mobilization by either party, redistricting effects on competitive districts, and late-cycle campaign spending could shift absolute vote counts. The clustered probabilities around 115-125 million ballots reflect this balance of structural midterm patterns and variable enthusiasm factors, with any widening enthusiasm gap or major economic shift likely to separate the leading ranges.
