The Swiss National Bank is widely expected to hold its policy rate at 0% at the September 24 monetary policy assessment, reflecting inflation that remains subdued despite a recent pickup to 0.8% year-over-year in August. Low price pressures, a neutral policy rate estimate near zero, and the SNB’s stated caution around negative rates or unwanted side effects have anchored trader consensus, with surveys of Swiss bankers also pointing to no change through 2027. Recent energy-driven price increases from geopolitical tensions have not triggered significant second-round effects, while the franc’s relative stability has further limited imported inflation. Market-implied odds heavily favor no change over small adjustments, consistent with the SNB’s June decision and forward guidance. The upcoming assessment and any updated inflation forecasts represent the primary near-term catalyst that could influence positioning.
