China's July CPI rose just 0.5% year-on-year, the lowest reading since January and below consensus, reflecting continued food deflation and softer non-food prices amid subdued domestic demand. Analysts expect the August print to edge higher to around 0.7%, citing seasonal vegetable price gains from weather disruptions, stabilizing pork prices, and favorable base effects, though weak consumption and excess manufacturing capacity continue to limit broader momentum. Core inflation has held near 0.9%, supported by select service categories, while producer prices eased in July. Trader positioning around 0.7%-0.8% as the modal outcome reflects these near-term dynamics ahead of the National Bureau of Statistics release, with lower bands priced for limited upside if demand pressures persist.
