Édouard Philippe leads trader consensus in the centrist lane for the 2027 French presidential election because polls consistently place him ahead of Gabriel Attal within the bloc central, with stronger support among moderate right and some left-leaning voters on security and economic issues. Philippe, mayor of Le Havre and leader of Horizons, has positioned himself as an experienced alternative to Macron-era policies while signaling openness to center-right alliances ahead of potential November-to-February talks. Attal, Renaissance leader who launched his bid in May 2026, has intensified ground campaigning and meetings through the summer but trails in first-round intentions, often by 5–8 points when both run. Recent surveys, including those from Elabe and Ifop in August–September 2026, show the gap persisting amid shared concerns over vote fragmentation benefiting Marine Le Pen or Jean-Luc Mélenchon. An informal understanding to assess dynamics by early 2027 remains in place without formal resolution.
