Gold prices in September 2026 remain sensitive to Federal Reserve policy expectations and incoming inflation data, with markets currently assigning roughly even odds to a September FOMC hold versus a 25-basis-point hike amid mixed signals on core PCE and CPI trends. After peaking above $5,600 per ounce in January and testing below $4,000 in June, XAU/USD has rebounded toward the $4,400–$4,700 range on a weaker dollar, persistent central-bank purchases exceeding 50 tonnes monthly, and fiscal-debasement concerns that have supported safe-haven flows. Key near-term catalysts include the August CPI release on September 10 and the FOMC decision on September 15–16, which could shift real-yield expectations and dollar momentum. Structural demand from sovereign buyers continues to provide a floor, while any acceleration in rate-hike pricing would likely cap upside by raising the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding bullion.
