Mayes Middleton secured the Republican nomination after a competitive primary runoff victory over Chip Roy, bolstered by substantial self-funding and alignment with conservative priorities on issues like election integrity and limiting federal authority. Nathan Johnson emerged as the Democratic nominee following his primary win, emphasizing cross-aisle work and anti-corruption measures. Recent August polling shows Middleton leading Johnson by three to five points with significant undecided voters, reflecting a tighter contest than typical Texas Republican advantages due to broader statewide dynamics. Traders assign Middleton an 81.5% implied probability, consistent with the state's partisan patterns and historical outcomes for the office, while Johnson's 18% reflects the structural challenges for Democrats in statewide races.
