Lula holds overwhelming trader consensus for first place in Alagoas during the October 4 first-round vote due to entrenched regional support for the Workers’ Party in Brazil’s Northeast, where the incumbent president has long drawn strong backing from lower-income voters, Catholics, and traditional PT strongholds. National polls consistently show Lula leading overall, with even wider margins expected in northeastern states like Alagoas compared to southern and southeastern regions favoring Flávio Bolsonaro. Campaigning opened in mid-August with Lula’s re-election bid formally advanced alongside running mate Geraldo Alckmin, while Bolsonaro’s ticket features Alagoas deputy Alfredo Gaspar as vice-presidential nominee. Scenarios that could narrow the gap include unexpectedly high turnout among evangelical or conservative blocs or a late surge by minor right-leaning candidates, though historical voting patterns in the state limit realistic challenges to Lula’s position.
