Gold (XAU/USD) trades near $4,000 per ounce amid conflicting macro forces, with recent U.S. labor market softening and mixed CPI readings tempering immediate rate-hike odds while elevated oil prices from Middle East tensions sustain inflation concerns and support a firmer dollar. Trader sentiment reflects the metal’s sensitivity to real yields and Fed policy expectations ahead of the July 28–29 FOMC meeting, as gold remains well below its January 2026 peak above $5,600. Light data releases early in the July 20 week, including leading indicators, could trigger short-term volatility, with outcomes hinging on any shifts in Treasury yields or risk appetite.
