Parliamentary elections to elect the Abgeordnetehaus of Berlin are scheduled to take place in Berlin on September 20, 2026. This market will resolve to the next individual who officially assumes the office of Regierender Bürgermeister (Governing Mayor) of Berlin following the specified elections. To count for resolution, the individual must be officially sworn in. Any interim or caretaker Governing Mayor will not count toward the resolution of this market. If no such Governing Mayor takes office by May 31, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to “Other”. The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from the Abgeordnetenhaus of Berlin; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.**The Berlin Abgeordnetenhaus election on September 20, 2026, will determine the next governing mayor through post-election coalition negotiations, as no party is expected to secure a majority.** Recent polls show a fragmented field with CDU, Die Linke, Greens, and AfD clustered between roughly 17-21%, while the SPD trails further back. This setup creates multiple plausible governing coalitions, primarily CDU-Greens-SPD or Linke-Greens-SPD, keeping the outcome for the mayor's office highly contingent on bargaining after results are known. The race tightened after incumbent CDU mayor Kai Wegner withdrew as lead candidate in July 2026 amid backlash over his handling of a major January power outage. Finance Senator Stefan Evers replaced him as the CDU's Spitzenkandidat and has helped stabilize party support, though name recognition remains limited across contenders. Die Linke has gained ground under Elif Eralp, who emphasizes housing affordability measures such as rent caps on public units and tenant protections, drawing on voter concerns in a high-cost city. Greens candidate Werner Graf, SPD's Steffen Krach, and AfD's Kristin Brinker round out the main field, but low overall familiarity with most candidates and a large undecided share contribute to volatility. Trader consensus reflects this uncertainty, with probabilities clustered tightly among leading options and limited separation likely until votes are counted and coalition talks begin. Late developments such as turnout patterns among younger or immigrant voters, final polling shifts, or unexpected coalition signals could still influence positioning in the narrow window before election day.
