Recent July final University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment at 55.2, revised higher from the preliminary 54.0 and up sharply from June’s 49.5, anchors trader expectations for the August 14 preliminary release. The rebound reflected broad gains across demographics amid easing gasoline prices and improved five-year business outlooks, though the index remains 10.5% below year-ago levels amid lingering inflation concerns. Year-ahead inflation expectations eased to 4.2% while long-run readings held at 3.3%. With the 55.0–57.9 bucket holding a narrow lead at 37.5% implied probability, markets price in modest follow-through tempered by potential volatility from ongoing price pressures and labor-market data. The closely matched 52.0–54.9 outcome at 29.0% highlights uncertainty around whether the July momentum sustains.
