New Mexico enters with momentum from its 2025 breakthrough season and strong defensive leadership, while UNLV holds a slight preseason edge in projections and NDSU brings proven program depth to a demanding schedule featuring road games against the other frontrunners. Hawai'i and Air Force add further parity through standout individual talent and service academy consistency. With no dominant program and five teams clustered near the top in advanced metrics, the absence of a clear favorite underscores the league's balanced outlook heading into the August kickoff.
