Recent technical demonstrations, including Starcloud’s November 2025 launch of an NVIDIA H100-equipped satellite that trained a Google Gemma large language model in orbit, have strengthened trader sentiment for an orbital AI data center by late 2027. Major players such as SpaceX, which unveiled its AI1 compute satellite design and filed for a million-satellite constellation in 2026, and NVIDIA, which released space-hardened Vera Rubin modules in March, are accelerating development to bypass terrestrial power and permitting constraints. Smaller prototypes dominate current activity, while qualifying systems need at least 100 data-center-grade GPUs or TPUs. Starcloud-2’s planned October 2026 commercial cluster and Google’s Project Suncatcher prototype target early 2027, representing key near-term catalysts that could shift implied probabilities if launches succeed or encounter radiation and scaling delays.
