Gold (XAUUSD) has rallied sharply into the week of August 24, 2026, driven primarily by the U.S. Treasury's expansion of long-dated bond buybacks to at least $4 billion per operation, which pressured yields lower and weighed on the dollar while boosting gold's appeal as a non-yielding asset amid fiscal sustainability concerns. Spot prices reached three-month highs near $4,700 intraday on August 24 before consolidating around $4,630 amid profit-taking, with August gains exceeding 16% supported by ETF inflows of nearly 47 tonnes last week, continued central bank purchases, and safe-haven demand tied to Middle East geopolitical tensions. Traders now focus on the July core PCE inflation release on August 26 and Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh's Jackson Hole speech on August 28, where market-implied odds for a September rate hike stand near 40%, leaving the near-term path sensitive to any shift in monetary policy expectations or real yields.
