Iran's next scheduled presidential election remains set for 2028 following Masoud Pezeshkian's 2024 victory. Pezeshkian continues in office as of late August 2026 with no reported resignation, incapacity, or Article 131 trigger for an early vote. The February 2026 assassination of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and subsequent selection of Mojtaba Khamenei by the Assembly of Experts created leadership transition dynamics but left the presidency unaffected and did not alter the four-year electoral cycle. Constitutional rules require Guardian Council vetting and limit candidacy, while post-war stabilization has reduced immediate pressures for snap elections. Trader consensus reflects these structural barriers, with any shift hinging on verifiable developments such as presidential health announcements, formal resignation statements, or Assembly actions within the resolution window.
