The U.S. Embassy in Damascus has remained closed since 2012 amid Syria's civil war, with operations suspended and no consular services available as of mid-2026 alerts. Trader focus centers on post-Assad transition dynamics since December 2024, including U.S. congressional notifications in February 2026 outlining a phased planning process for potential resumption under the Trump administration, alongside related steps such as Caesar Act adjustments and considerations for Syria's terror designation status. Key variables include security assessments in Damascus, Senate foreign relations oversight, bilateral diplomatic engagement with Syrian authorities, and any sanctions relief or normalization milestones that could enable full embassy staffing. No firm reopening timeline or personnel return has been confirmed, leaving outcomes tied to ongoing policy implementation and regional stability factors.

This market will resolve to "Yes" if the U.S. government announces the reopening of its embassy in Damascus or if such a reopening is otherwise confirmed by 11:59 PM ET on the specified date. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No".
An official announcement made within this market’s timeframe will qualify for a "Yes" resolution regardless of whether an actual embassy opening subsequently takes place within the timeframe.
Any opening of a U.S. embassy in Damascus will qualify regardless of its exact location.
Announcements that do not clearly commit to opening an embassy, such as general diplomatic statements, exploratory comments, or partial/conditional steps, will not count.
The resolution source will be official statements from the Governments of the U.S. and Syria; however, a consensus of credible reporting will also be used.
