Incumbent Mark Sutcliffe maintains the strongest position in the Ottawa mayoral race ahead of the October 26 vote, supported by name recognition and polling that shows him ahead even as his support among decided voters has declined from earlier levels. July surveys indicated Sutcliffe at 36 percent among decided and leaning voters, with homebuilder Alex Lawson rising to 26 percent and city councillor Jeff Leiper at 25 percent, while a large share of respondents remained undecided. Traders appear to price in Sutcliffe’s incumbency advantages and the fragmented opposition, as challengers have not consolidated support behind one alternative. Nominations close August 21, with debates scheduled later in the campaign focusing on transit, infrastructure, and growth issues that continue to shape voter assessments.
