The Bank of Korea’s August 27 decision to raise its benchmark rate by 25 basis points to 3.00% for the second consecutive meeting, supported by six of seven board members, has anchored trader expectations for the November policy meeting around either a hold or a modest additional hike. Elevated core inflation at 2.6% year-over-year in July, above the 2% target, combined with a sharply upgraded 2026 GDP growth forecast to 3.3% driven by semiconductor exports and recovering domestic demand, continues to support tightening bias. The board’s updated dot plot points to a median 3.25% terminal rate by year-end, while analysts highlight the need to assess the impact of recent moves amid housing-market pressures and exchange-rate stability. Market-implied odds reflect this gradual path, with November data releases on inflation and growth serving as key near-term catalysts.
