**Democratic House retirements for the 2026 midterms currently stand near 23 announced members not seeking re-election**, placing the 20–23 bucket at the top of trader pricing. Multiple sources tracking announcements, including Ballotpedia updates through mid-August 2026, list exactly 23 Democrats among roughly 60 total House incumbents stepping aside, with the balance skewed toward Republicans. This count includes both outright retirements from public office and members running for higher office such as Senate or governor seats. Recent catalysts include high-profile departures by longtime figures such as Nancy Pelosi, Jerry Nadler, Jan Schakowsky, and others, many announced after Democrats’ stronger-than-expected 2025 off-year results. Additional names continue to surface on lists from the House Press Gallery and election trackers, though the pace has slowed. The 24–27 range retains solid secondary support because filing deadlines in several states remain ahead and a handful of additional announcements could still occur. Traders appear to view the current tally as stable but not final, consistent with historical patterns in which retirement waves build gradually before primary season intensifies.

This market will resolve according to the total number of Democratic members of the U.S. House of Representatives who are considered to be retiring or not seeking reelection in 2026.
For the purposes of this market, a member may be considered not to seek reelection if:
• They publicly announce they are retiring from Congress and will not run for reelection to their current seat
• They choose to run for a different elected office in 2026 instead of running for reelection to their current seat
• They do not seek their party’s nomination for reelection to their current seat, meaning they neither file for reelection nor participate in their party’s nominating process (such as a primary, convention, or caucus)
Only members whose current term is scheduled to end with the 2026 regular election for the House may qualify for this market.
This market will not resolve until after the relevant final 2026 candidate filing deadline has passed in all states, which is expected to occur in late August 2026.
