California's 6th Congressional District held its June 2, 2026, top-two primary under the state's nonpartisan blanket system, where the two highest vote-getters advance to the November general election regardless of party. Redistricting shifted the Sacramento-area seat, prompting incumbent Kevin Kiley to switch from Republican to independent while several Democrats—including former state Senator and physician Richard Pan, Sacramento County District Attorney Thien Ho, and others—entered a crowded field that split support. Early returns with roughly two-thirds of votes counted placed Kiley first, followed closely by Pan and little-known Republican Michael Stansfield, whose positioning reflects the fragmented Democratic vote and limited campaign resources among challengers. Remaining ballots, often including more Democratic-leaning mail votes, continue to be tallied and could determine the final pair advancing.
