This market will resolve to "Yes" if Apple Maps displays "Lake America," "Lake of America," or a similar name including both "Lake" and "America" as the label for the body of water currently known as the "Lake Ontario" for the majority of users within the United States by the specified date, 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to “No”. Changes which appear only in experimental features or subnational regional variants will not qualify for a “Yes” resolution. If both "Lake America" and "Lake Ontario" are used to label the body of water, this will qualify for a “Yes” resolution. The resolution source will be Apple Maps; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.President Trump's August 27 executive order, issued amid escalating U.S.-Canada trade tensions, directed the Interior Department to update the Geographic Names Information System and rename Lake Ontario to Lake America in federal records. Google Maps quickly aligned for U.S. users over the August 30 weekend, displaying the new name domestically while retaining Lake Ontario for Canadian users and dual labeling elsewhere, consistent with its prior Gulf of America handling. Apple Maps has not yet implemented the change as of August 31, though the company followed Google's timeline on the Gulf precedent. Interior Secretary Burgum confirmed direct White House outreach to Apple and indicated an update is expected shortly. Trader sentiment centers on Apple's corporate policy of following official U.S. geographic databases, the speed of its prior compliance, and any potential resistance tied to the binational lake's international status.
