Recent August CPI data showing a rebound to 0.8% year-on-year from July’s 0.5% low has anchored trader expectations for September around the 0.9-1.0% range. The pickup stemmed primarily from higher energy and transport costs linked to global commodity prices and Middle East supply risks, which added roughly 0.28 percentage points to the annual rate, while non-food categories strengthened modestly. Persistent food deflation, especially pork prices down over 11% year-on-year amid ample supply and soft consumption, continues to cap upside. Core inflation excluding food and energy held near 1.0%, reflecting subdued domestic demand that limits broader pass-through from producer prices. Forecasts from several institutions cluster near 0.9-1.1% for the month and full year, supporting the market’s leading bins while leaving room for modest downside if seasonal vegetable gains fade or energy pressures ease.
