Ed Ruscha’s auction market continues to demonstrate resilience heading into the October 7 Sotheby’s Contemporary Curated sale, where “Cities Across the Globe” is slated to appear. Recent results for works on paper and 1980s lithographs have frequently surpassed estimates, with 2025 highlights including a $1.8 million realization and consistent six-figure outcomes supported by strong institutional interest and sell-through rates near 80 percent. The artist’s 2024 record of $68.3 million for a major 1960s painting has sustained broader collector confidence, even as the wider contemporary sector remains selective. Pre-sale estimates and comparable provenance will shape final bidding, with any late catalog updates or competing high-profile lots serving as the key near-term variables for traders.
