An arrest warrant was issued, yet Castro remains in Cuba at age 95, with no confirmed extradition request or transfer. Cuban officials have rejected the charges as illegitimate self-defense and shown no signs of cooperation, while US statements emphasize potential leverage in broader negotiations over prisoners or sanctions rather than immediate enforcement. Analysts note significant diplomatic, legal, and practical barriers to custody, including Castro’s location and advanced age. No major new developments have altered this equilibrium in recent months.
